Let’s start from the concept of a right triangle:
- Right triangle – is a triangle, in which one of the angles is right, i.e. ∠A = 90°, triangle △ABC – right triangle
The sum of the other two angles in the right triangle is 90°, i.e. ∠B + ∠C = 90°
Hypotenuse of the right triangle – largest side of the triangle, which is opposite to the right angle
Sides of the right triangle, adjacent to the right angle, are called legs. The lower side is called Base. The perpendicular side is called Height
Area of a Right Triangle
Area of a right triangle is labelled with a letter S. It equals to one half of Base and Height product, i.e. multiply length of Base and Height and divide the result by 2
The Area of a Right Triangle – the following formula is used:
- AC – one of the legs – Base
- AB – one of the legs – Height
Example: there is a right triangle △ABC, length of one leg (Base) AC is 6 cm, length of another leg (Height) AB is 5 cm. Calculate the area of a right triangle:
